Sam – The Captain
I’ve always loved tinkering with bicycles since my BMX days. I worked for legends Dundee and Mo at Broome Cycles for a season, but seriously fell in love with bicycle mechanics as an early childhood teacher. My teaching programme became more and more integrated with bicycles and bicycle mechanics, which spectacularly spilled into my home life, as well. I was working on any bicycle I could get my hands on, wrenching for Bicycles for Humanity, and working on trash-pick bikes. When Captain Millie was born, I left teaching to co-parent and found myself working in a bicycle workshop again at my favourite bike shop (here!). My obsession bore fruit and I eventually purchased the shop from Drew. There’s always something to learn – bicycles are an incredible system!
Millie – First Mate
Millie, the girl with a thousand nicknames, is highly adept at walking around the workshop repairing anything she can get her hands on, as comfortable wielding a spanner as a Spartan is at wielding a sword.
Millie is learning how to ride a pedal bike, and enjoys time on the gravel, however, her true love resides in slinging spanners, and gazing at the moon – discussing the earth’s orbit over a warm glass of milk.
As time goes on, you’ll see Millie in the workshop more and more as she learns her family’s trade.
Rod Rod Rod!
Roddy is a legend at Captain Walker’s, cycling 60klms round trip a couple of times a week to hang out with us in the shop, offering sagely advice, surly commentary, and questionable theories on life and love.
We consider Rod a close friend and the shop wouldn’t be the same without his regular visits – we look forward to his arrival in the shop on our “Roddy Days”.
Rod is also famous for being able to carry a pizza under his wing, while riding his Bombtrack Hook EXT home on Fridays.
